The hubs and I just moved to a house we bought in Nokomis, Florida. Our ultimate goal off the produce in the back yard of our 1/4 acre RSF.
He's a ivy-league finance graduate and claims he can predict the future through his dreams. When he first said this I thought he was carzy. Lately, I'm not so sure he's just making it up. It can get freaky. I am a biologist and a teacher and from a little country in South America.
The hubs accuired his taste for flavorful produce and quality meat in Argentina, where he and I met a few years ago. Luckily, I have had this luxury most of my life, and I knew it. I don't eat anything that comes from a box and I'd rather fast for a while than have to eat anythig made out of a comodity food. Well, maybe beer. Beer's my "cheat". I know where my food comes from; my buddy's farm only 30 minutes away from my house in the city of San Lorenzo in Paraguay.
However, in the US, where all the food comes in a box or can I have a hard time dealing with eating it. I was shocked to find this while flipping through cupons: it seems we don't have enough oranges right here in Florida.
I don't want my food to come in a box or a bag. and I don't want to eat something picked green that has been sitting in a box for weeks to flavorlessly ripen. Moreover, the last thing I want is have to pay 2 whole dollars for 1 organic zucchini. Most of the population on the planet lives on half that a day. In countries where widespread poverty is present, 'organic' just means that the farmer didn't have to pay to get fertilizer or pesticides actually making it cheaper to buy.
So we are building Barefoot Microfarms.
